THE Royal Television Society’s Scottish branch, RTS Scotland – a leading forum for television and related media – has announced the winners of the RTS Scotland Television Awards 2018 at a ceremony held last night, at The Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow.

The ceremony was hosted by STV presenter, Jennifer Reoch, and stand-up comedian and radio presenter, Des Clarke.

Chaired by Jane Muirhead (managing director of Raise The Roof Productions), the RTS Scotland Awards cover all forms of production in Scotland, recognising and celebrating excellence and innovation across a wide range of genres and crafts.

BBC Scotland scooped four awards in the production category for Trust Me I’m A Doctor Mental Health Special, (for BBC Two) in the Documentary and Specialist Factual segment; Queers – The Man on the Platform, (for BBC Four) in the Drama segment; Football Abuse: The Ugly Side of the Beautiful Game (for BBC One Scotland) in the Current Affairs segment, and The Dog Ate My Homework (for CBBC) in the Comedy segment.

Iain Stirling scooped On Screen Personality for The Dog Ate My Homework (BBC Scotland, for CBBC); while Biança Barker won the Television Director category for A Family Divided (Steadipix Productions, for BBC Scotland).

In the Young Journalist category – which is presented in memory of George MacFarlane Sinclair, the former BBC Scotland news and current affairs editor – STV News’ Ben Philip won the award and received a prize of £1,000, donated by the family trust of George Sinclair. While in the News and Current Affairs categories, STV News at 6 – North, (STV News, for STV) scooped the News Programme Award.

For factual, Raise the Roof Productions’ Phil Spencer Find Me a Home (for Channel 4) won the Factual Entertainment and Features category; Darren Hercher Films’ Sighthill (for BBC Two Scotland) triumphed in the Documentary and Specialist Factual category; while Hopscotch Films’ Brian Cox’s Russia (for BBC Scotland) scooped the Documentary and Specialist Factual: History category; and Terry Pratchett: Back in Black, (Pacific Quay Productions, for BBC Scotland) took the Documentary and Specialist Factual: Arts Award.

The coveted Student Award went to drama Antonio by Alison Still of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

The RTS Scotland Award, an industry award for outstanding contribution to television in Scotland was presented to Ewan Angus, BBC Scotland commissioning rditor, Television.
